Gentle Touch Pet Training
Sniff & Go
NW1 / Elite
Sunday, January 14, 2018
9:00 am – 5:00 pm
NOTE: This is NOT a NACSW sanctioned event.
This is for fun and practice in a new location.
The morning session is NW1 from approximately 9:30 – 11:30. We will run all four elements (Interior, Exterior, Vehicles, Containers).
The afternoon session is 3 Elite Level Searches and they will run from approximately 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
Note: To register for the Elite level searches you do not need to hold that level of title. Your dog does need to be on all three odors (birch, anise, clove) and has to be comfortable with multiple hides. Ideally, you would have practiced in class at a higher level at least occasionally.
- 9:30 – 11:30 NW1 Level Searches (all four elements)
- 11:30 – 12:30 – Potluck for all participants
- 12:45 – 1:00 PM – Ribbons & Wrap-up for NW1
- 1:00 – 4:30 PM – Elite Level Searches
- 4:30 – 5:00 PM – Ribbons & Wrap-up for Elite searches
NW1 Please arrive at 9:00 AM to have time to set up. Do not arrive prior to 9:00 AM. Elite participants please arrive for Potluck by 11:30! If you choose not to participate in Potluck, please arrive at 12:30 PM.

Elite – $40
Pat Bowman’s residence, 4155 Carrizo Road, Atascadero, CA 93422
A HUGE thanks to Pat Bowman inviting us to hold the Sniff & Go at her property!
Please come participate in the Potluck. It will be right after NW1 searches and before Elite searches.
Although this is a practice for getting ready to trial, you and your dog can have fun practicing even if you don’t plan to trial.
To register for the NW1 or Elite level searches, you do not need to hold that level of title, however, you need to have practiced in class at that level. NW1 participants will have 1 Birch hide per element and we will search all four elements (interior, exterior, containers, vehicles. Elite level participants can be at NW2, NW3 or Elite Level and must be on all 3 odors plus be comfortable with multiple hides.
This Sniff & Go will be run similar to NACSW trials, so you may want to review those basic rules: http://www.nacsw.net/trialinformation/trialrulebook.html.
Your Dog’s Comfort: Make sure your dog is comfortable between searches. You may want to bring shade cloths, canopies, crate fans, doggie water, etc. Please bring a canvas chair.
Aggressive or Reactive Dogs: Because this sport does allow for reactive or aggressive dogs, I’d like to ask everyone’s cooperation in being as careful as we can. I know this is difficult as many of you train together and your dogs know each other, however, please follow the NACSW guidelines. Please bring a red bandana for any reactive or aggressive dogs. According to NACSW rules, dogs need to be crated or contained in a vehicle during a Nose Work event. (I would not recommend having two dogs loose in one vehicle because when you let one out, it’s possible the other dog could slip out too. If you have two dogs in one vehicle, I’d recommend crating at least one of them. Also keep in mind that even though your dog may be very social and friendly, it doesn’t mean all dogs will be. If you choose to contain your dog in a vehicle without being crated, then please make sure car windows are rolled up enough that a dog could not jump out (or in). Also, make sure hatchbacks are closed.
